Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has issued a severe weather alert covering 53 provinces, including the capital Bangkok, warning of heavy to torrential rainfall from October 9 to 13, with imminent risks of flash floods, landslides and strong winds across wide areas.

The weather warning covers extensive regions nationwide, including parts of northern, northeastern and central Thailand, as well as all 14 provinces in the southern region. Local meteorological authorities have confirmed upcoming thunderstorms, gusty winds and intense downpours, prompting cross-government emergency preparedness measures.

Affected administrative areas span five northern provinces, nine northeastern provinces, 25 central provinces, Bangkok and the entire southern territory. Marine conditions are also set to deteriorate, with wave heights exceeding two meters expected in thunderstorm-hit sections of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, posing maritime safety hazards.
Provincial authorities have been ordered to step up real-time monitoring of rainfall and water levels throughout the weather event. Local governments are accelerating drainage system upgrades in flood-prone zones, while pre-positioning emergency personnel and equipment to respond to potential disasters.

Comprehensive pre-emptive measures have been rolled out, including early public weather notifications, temporary access restrictions to high-risk natural scenic spots when necessary, and advance preparation of temporary shelters, drinking water, food and daily necessities for affected residents.

National emergency response teams have been placed on 24-hour standby status, ready to launch immediate rescue and relief operations once weather conditions worsen. Authorities urge residents in high-risk areas to closely follow official weather forecasts and comply with on-site emergency instructions during the alert period.
