Abstract：Ukraine is leading the adoption of AI-powered tracked combat robots, deploying over 18,000 UGVs to handle logistics, combat, and casualty missions, and forming the world’s first unmanned combat battalion to reduce soldier risk and advance autonomous warfare.

Ukraine is rapidly deploying AI-powered tracked combat robots, positioning itself at the forefront of real-world robotic warfare. By early 2026, over 18,000 unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) had been deployed, performing frontline logistics, casualty evacuation, and combat support missions.

Tracked models form the core of the fleet. Lightweight robots like the TW-12.7 are armed with 12.7mm machine guns, while heavy modular units such as VATAG carry up to two tons of payload and can be configured for fire support, transport, or engineering tasks. Silent electric and hybrid drives, combined with low-profile designs, allow for stealthy movement, while modularity enables rapid role changes on the fly.

AI systems provide advanced perception and decision-making, using multi-spectral sensors and lidar to identify targets automatically, and fire control systems that calculate trajectories and select munitions in under a second. Redundant communication links—including LTE and Starlink—ensure reliability even under interference.

Ukraine has also established the world’s first dedicated unmanned combat battalion, creating a robotic-first tactical structure. Military officials say these AI platforms have reduced personnel exposure by 30% and could replace a significant portion of infantry roles in the future, marking a leap forward in autonomous military technology.
