Introduction to Airspeed Gauge Calibration
Electronic devices are products with high technological content. When your device malfunctions, please carefully check the power supply voltage of the circuit. Burning of imported modules during use is not covered by the warranty.
The PIX version differential pressure sensor uses I2C interface for digital output, and the total error within the compensation range is less than 1.0%. Digital output can reduce interference compared to analog output.
The dynamic pressure above is connected to the static pressure below the straight pipe, and the static pressure is connected to the side with holes Adopting DF13 terminal interface. The delivery terminal wire can be directly connected to the flight control I2C expansion board. Sensor: Below is static pressure, above is dynamic pressure.
The connection method of the corresponding airspeed tube
The long end is connected to the dynamic pressure hole above the airspeed gauge, and the short end is connected to the static pressure hole below the airspeed gauge
Install Pitot Tube
DIY leather tube
You can do it with 2 pen refills. The dynamic tube is straight through and installed outside the machine. The static tube is plugged into the tube, and then 4 small holes are opened on the side, approximately 0.5-1mm in size. When installing the airspeed sensor on the aircraft, use this pitot tube kit. The kit includes two tubes, a static tube (with a sealed port and a small hole on one side) and a dynamic tube (a straight through tube without sealing). Two pipes can be placed side by side. On EasyStar, you need to pass them through the foam in front of the cockpit so that they can be exposed to the airflow. Ensure that the holes on the side of the pipe are not covered. They should extend at least 1 centimeter out of the nose. Firstly, connect the silicone tube behind the pitot tube to the pressure sensor. The silicone hose coming out of the straight pipe should be connected to the upper port, and the hose coming out of the bent pipe should be connected to the lower port. Drill or cut a small hole in the foam and push the pitot tube forward.
If there is a propeller in front of your aircraft, the dynamic tube must be pressed onto one of the wings, or at least below the fuselage, to avoid propeller airflow. Static pipes can be installed anywhere.
Check operation
You can use APM Planner or other ground stations to read airspeed readings. Blow air into the pitot tube and observe the response Zero and small oscillations (2-3) are normal in still air. The airspeed varies with the square root of pressure, so the variation near zero pressure difference is very small, while larger pressure changes are required during flight to generate estimated velocity changes. If what you see mostly is 0, 1, 2, occasionally rebounding to 3 or 4, consider it normal. You won't see such changes while flying.
Function of airspeed indicator
The flight controller adjusts the throttle and attitude of the aircraft based on the airspeed, which can effectively avoid the situation of fixed wings stalling in headwinds and overturning in the face of strong winds;

Basic wiring: Connect the i2c interface of the flight control, with the wiring sequence of scl to scl, sda to sda, 5V to 5V, and GND to GND. (x7+flight controller connected to i2c1 arspd-bus=1, connected to i2c2 arspd-bus=2)
Installation precautions: 1. The airspeed tube cannot be installed directly behind or in front of the propeller; 2. If the static pressure hose is not connected to the metal airspeed tube, you can drill holes or plug some cotton on the static pressure hose to prevent air from directly blowing in (and also to avoid direct blockage).
Product parameters
Parameter configuration
| (1) Connect Mission Planner>Initial Settings>Optional Hardware>Airspeed Gauge (2) Check to use airspeed indicator, corresponding parameter ARSPD-USE=1 (3) Set PIN to PX4/Pixhawk Eagletree or MEAS I2C, corresponding parameter ARSPD-PIN=65 (4) Set TYPE to I2C-MS4525, corresponding parameter ARSSPD_TYPE=1 (5) The different I2C interfaces of the flight control correspond to different bus numbers. Search for ARSPD_SUS in the parameter table: For V5+\ X7+\ NORA flight control: When the airspeed indicator is connected to the I2C1 interface, ARSPD_BUS=1; When the airspeed indicator is connected to the I2C2 interface, ARSPD_BUS=2; When the airspeed indicator is connected to the I2C3 interface, ARSPD_BUS=0; |
The I2C4 interface does not have corresponding parameters and is not connected to the MS4525 airspeed indicator. For the PIXHAWK V6X flight control: When the airspeed indicator is connected to the I2C pin of the gps2 or UART4 interface, ARSPD_BUS=1; (6) After writing the parameters, restart the flight controller. ◆Zero calibration: The airspeed value will return to zero and fluctuate between 0 and 3 when there is no wind indoors ◆Numerical inspection: Blowing air into the airspeed tube will increase the numerical value (or pinching the airspeed hose will increase the numerical value), and there will be significant changes in the airspeed value. |
|
| ◆Airspeed | Ground Speed Difference The airspeed gauge measures the relative speed of the aircraft to the air, not the actual flight speed, while GPS measures the relative speed to the ground; When there is no wind, ground speed equals airspeed; when there is a tailwind, ground speed equals airspeed plus wind speed; when there is a headwind, ground speed equals airspeed minus wind speed. Px4 firmware Activate airspeed indicator Set SENS-EN_MS4525DO to enable and restart the flight control. Airspd will display the initial airspeed value. |
Airspeed calibration •Click on the airspeed button •Isolate the sensor from the wind (i.e. cover the sensor with your hand) and be careful not to block any holes. •Click [ok] to start calibration Blow air into the tip of the pitot tube, and the airspeed gauge detects a change in pressure difference and prompts calibration completion. |
