Product Description

THS Series Harmonic Reducer

The THS Series Harmonic Reducer is a high-performance, precision gear reducer designed for demanding automation and robotics systems. It offers four connection types, a wide range of sizes and reduction ratios , and is engineered to deliver exceptional rigidity, torque capacity, and positioning accuracy. With its coaxial input/output design and large hollow shaft, the BHS reducer simplifies integration and supports applications requiring cable or shaft pass-through.

Functional Features

  1. High Load Capacity: In harmonic reducers, tooth engagement is surface contact, and the number of simultaneously engaged teeth (overlap coefficient) is relatively high. This results in low unit area pressure and higher load capacity compared to other transmission forms.

  2. Large Reduction Ratio: The reduction ratio of a single-stage harmonic reducer can reach i = 50–500.

  3. Compact Size and Light Weight.

  4. High Transmission Efficiency and Long Service Life.

  5. Smooth Transmission: Operation is stable, free of impact and noise, with high motion accuracy.

Product Views

It primarily consists of three fundamental components:

  1. Circular Spline : A rigid gear with an internal ring gear, analogous to the sun gear in a planetary system.

  2. Flexspline : A flexible gear with an external ring gear, analogous to the planetary gear.

  3. Wave Generator: Analogous to the planetary carrier.

                                                                                                                               Flexspline

                                                                                                                            Wave Generator

                                                                                                                        Circular Spline

Application

Thanks to its core features including high precision, zero backlash, compact design, high rigidity, and large hollow shaft, the BHS Series Harmonic Reducer serves as an ideal transmission solution for fields such as aerospace, industrial robotics, inspection and analysis equipment, medical devices, communication equipment, and high‑end processing machinery. Its zero‑backlash transmission and high rotational accuracy meet the stringent positioning requirements of aerospace and inspection systems. The compact coaxial design facilitates integration into the confined spaces of medical and communication devices, while the high torque density and rigid structure support continuous high‑load operation in industrial robots and processing equipment. Furthermore, the hollow‑shaft design enables easy routing of cables and tubes, optimizing overall machine layout and reliability.

Model Description

Harmonic gear reducers can be classified into two main categories based on the shape of the flexspline: Cup Type and Hollow Hat Type. Each category is further divided into Standard and Short Cylinder models based on the length of the flexspline. Each model includes several transmission ratios.

Type Code
The product type code consists of three parts: Flexspline ShapeFlexspline Length, and Torque.

  1. Flexspline Shape is divided into Cup (C) and Hollow Hat (H).

    • Cup flexspline is denoted by the capital letter C.

    • Hollow Hat flexspline is denoted by the capital letter H.

  2. Flexspline Length is divided into Standard (S) and Short Cylinder (D).

    • Standard flexspline is denoted by the capital letter S.

    • Short Cylinder flexspline is denoted by the capital letter D.

  3. Torque is divided into Standard and High Torque.

    • High Torque is denoted by the capital letter G; otherwise, it is the standard type.

Structure Code
The structure code of the reducer is divided into two types: Unit (Complete Machine) and Part (Component).

  • Unit (Complete Machine) is denoted by the capital letter U.

  • Part (Component) is denoted by the capital letter P.

Connection Methods
Type I: Standard type, where the input shaft fits into the cam's inner bore and is connected via a flat key.
Type II: Oldham coupling type, where the input shaft and the cam are connected using an Oldham coupling.
Type III: Cylindrical hollow type, where the input shaft is connected to the hollow cam via screws.
Type IV: Solid shaft input type.

1. Rated Torque
The continuous load torque allowed at the output end when the input speed is 2000 r/min.

2. Maximum Allowable Torque During Start/Stop
The maximum allowable torque generated during start/stop that exceeds the normal load.

3. Maximum Allowable Average Load
The average load calculated based on variations in input speed and torque. This average load must not exceed the rated value listed in the table.

4.Maximum Allowable Instantaneous Torque
The maximum allowable torque from unpredictable external impact, beyond the usual load torque and the torque during start/stop.

5.Transmission Accuracy
Under operating conditions, the degree of closeness between the actual rotation angle of the output shaft and the corresponding theoretical rotation angle when the input shaft rotates in a single direction.

6.Design Life

  • The service life of the reducer when the input speed is 2000 r/min and the output torque is at the rated torque.

  • Backlash: With both the output end and the reducer housing fixed, a slight angular displacement generated at the input end when a torque of ±2% of the rated torque is applied clockwise and counterclockwise.

  • Lost Motion: Under operating conditions, the lag in the rotation angle of the output shaft when the input shaft changes from forward to reverse rotation.

Recommended Lubricating Oil

※Combination type products are lubricated with grease, which is pre-added before delivery and no additional injection is required during assembly; simple type products are not filled with grease at the factory and need to be added separately during assembly.

※Do not mix with other types of lubricating grease.

※Improve lubrication life through the following measures: Apply grease to all contact parts thoroughly at the initial stage of operation to completely remove initial wear dust generated during the sealing stage of each contact, and replenish grease to each contact part.

Installation

1.Motor direct connection with wave generator (Type Ⅰ Connection)

2.Motor connection with cross slider coupling (Type Ⅱ Connection)

Incorrect Mounting Direction                                                                                                                                            Correct Mounting Direction

Improper installation may cause vibration, abnormal noise or even damage to the harmonic reducer during operation. Please strictly follow the following installation instructions:
  1. 1.Before installation, check that the flatness of the mounting plate is good and that there are no protrusions or foreign objects around the screw holes.

  2. 2.Avoid applying excessive external force to the bearing part of the wave generator during assembly. The wave generator can be smoothly inserted into the flexspline by rotating it.

  3. 3.When using a coupling structure without a cross slider, pay special attention to controlling the geometric accuracy of the installation position (suggested within 0.01~0.015mm).
