Summary: The Cyber X robot vacuum prototype introduces a tracked mechanical stair-climbing system aimed at enabling autonomous cross-floor mobility in multi-story residential environments.
At the 2026 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), a prototype robot vacuum known as Cyber X attracted attention due to its integrated mechanical stair-climbing system. The design targets a long-standing industry limitation: the inability of robot vacuums to independently operate across multiple floors in residential buildings.

The system’s core innovation lies in a large tracked climbing mechanism that enables horizontal, vehicle-like motion on stairs. According to technical demonstrations, the prototype can handle steps up to 25 cm in height and slopes up to 42 degrees, completing a full staircase ascent in approximately 27 seconds with stable and controlled movement.
Unlike humanoid-inspired climbing approaches, Cyber X uses a low-profile, horizontally oriented motion strategy similar to a compact tracked vehicle. This design prioritizes stability and trajectory control, and live demonstrations indicated smooth operation during both ascent and descent without noticeable instability.
The device adopts a modular architecture separating the vacuum cleaning unit from the stair-climbing chassis. The cleaning module docks into the mobility base for cross-floor transfer, while navigation is supported by laser-based positioning. Additional features include mopping functionality and an emergency braking system to prevent slipping on stairs or slopes.

The prototype remains in the research stage, with no confirmed mass production timeline. However, its cross-floor mobility concept is viewed as a potential direction for future robotic vacuum development, particularly for improving automation in multi-level residential environments.
