Recently, Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid robot, a subsidiary of the Hyundai Motor Group, won the CNET Group's "Best Robot" award at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This robot, making its debut, received unanimous praise from over 40 technology media experts for its natural humanoid gait and minimalist design.
The CNET jury commented that Atlas was one of the best humanoid robots at this year's CES. Its production version has already been deployed at Hyundai's production facilities this year and may participate in automobile manufacturing in the future. It is understood that the CES annual awards focus on benchmark products that "break technological boundaries and define the technological landscape of the year," and Atlas's award confirms its innovative value in the field of robotics.
Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Platt stated that Atlas is the company's most advanced robot to date, and the award recognizes the team's efforts. He also thanked the Hyundai Group for providing the platform for showcasing the robot.
In terms of application planning, Atlas will be deployed to the modern Savannah, Georgia factory by 2028, initially handling safe and efficient production processes such as parts sorting; by 2030, it will expand to parts assembly, and subsequently undertake complex processes such as heavy handling and repetitive tasks, contributing to smart factory upgrades and ensuring employee safety.
As a general-purpose industrial humanoid robot, Atlas boasts significant core advantages: it can complete most task training within a day, supports automatic battery swapping and continuous autonomous operation; it can lift up to 50 kg and possesses high-precision operation capabilities; it is waterproof and low-temperature resistant, operating at full capacity in environments ranging from -20°C to 40°C. Its advanced rotary joints, sensors, and 56 degrees of freedom design allow it to flexibly adapt to traditional manual workspaces and quickly adapt to new tasks.
