Tesla has officially unveiled the Cybercab, its first production vehicle designed from the ground up for fully autonomous robotaxi services, marking a major milestone in the evolution of self-driving transportation, robotaxi technology, and smart urban mobility.

Launched in Austin, Texas, the all-electric Cybercab is now operating in limited commercial ride-hailing zones through Tesla’s Robotaxi platform. Unlike conventional vehicles adapted for autonomous driving, the Cybercab was engineered specifically for driverless operation, featuring no steering wheel, no pedals, and no human driver controls.

The compact two-seat vehicle showcases Tesla’s futuristic design language with gold metallic paint and butterfly doors. Inside, passengers enjoy spacious seating, a large central touchscreen for trip controls and entertainment, and luggage capacity suitable for airport transfers. A low step-in height improves accessibility for elderly passengers and individuals with mobility challenges.

Powered by Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, the Cybercab relies entirely on eight onboard cameras and end-to-end neural network AI. The vehicle operates without LiDAR sensors or high-definition maps, highlighting Tesla’s vision-based approach to autonomous driving.

Tesla says the Cybercab is optimized for urban ride-sharing, using a highly efficient battery system and streamlined manufacturing process. The company aims to reduce production costs below $30,000 per vehicle, potentially lowering autonomous transportation costs and making robotaxi services more affordable for cities worldwide.

Passengers can book rides through the Tesla Robotaxi app, where Cybercab vehicles operate alongside Tesla’s existing autonomous fleet. Upon arrival, the vehicle automatically unlocks and opens its doors, while the entire journey is managed by Tesla’s AI-powered driving platform.

Originally revealed as a concept during Tesla’s "We, Robot" event in 2024, Cybercab has progressed from prototype to commercial deployment in less than two years. Tesla plans to expand robotaxi operations beyond Austin as regulatory approvals are secured.
