Skyfall AI Launches SKY-001 World Model for CAD and BIM Engineering Design

Summary: Skyfall AI has unveiled SKY-001, a hierarchical AI world model designed to generate executable CAD and BIM workflows from text prompts and 2D sketches. The model aims to automate complex engineering design, with commercial availability targeted for early 2027.

Artificial intelligence is moving beyond generating 3D images toward creating designs that can be used in real engineering workflows. On October 19, Skyfall AI introduced SKY-001, a specialized world model designed to generate structured, buildable designs for computer-aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) applications.

Unlike conventional generative AI systems that primarily produce visual 3D assets, SKY-001 is designed to account for the geometry, component relationships and modeling operations needed to turn design concepts into usable engineering models. Users can provide text prompts or rough 2D sketches, allowing the system to generate sequences of modeling operations for compatible CAD and BIM workflows, including those involving Autodesk Fusion.

The model uses a hierarchical compositional architecture that recursively decomposes complex 3D designs into nested assemblies and individual components. This approach is intended to help engineers and architects manage complex structures while exploring multiple design options in parallel. By generating and comparing design variants before physical prototyping, SKY-001 could help reduce early-stage design time and development costs.

Potential applications include automotive engineering, drone development, aerospace systems, satellite design and healthcare facility planning. In these fields, AI-generated designs must meet practical geometric and structural requirements rather than simply look realistic.

According to internal benchmarks released by Skyfall AI, SKY-001 achieved an intersection over union (IoU) score of 79.7% on CAD tasks, compared with 79.1% for GPT-6 Astra. The company also reported an average runtime of 3.9 seconds and a cost of $0.005 per CAD run. For BIM floor-plan tasks, the model achieved an IoU score of 43.6%, with an average runtime of 1.22 seconds. These figures are company-reported results and do not establish performance across all engineering workloads.

Sam Pasupalak, co-founder and CEO of Skyfall AI, said that replacing repeated, compute-intensive large language model calls with world models capable of longer-term planning could reduce token costs and broaden AI adoption in engineering.

Skyfall AI was founded by members of the team behind Maluuba, a deep learning startup acquired by Microsoft in 2017. SKY-001 is currently available as a research preview, with access through a waitlist. The company plans to launch the model commercially in early 2027 as part of its broader strategy to develop autonomous enterprise systems.

If the approach proves effective in real-world workflows, SKY-001 could help bridge the gap between generative AI and practical engineering automation, enabling AI systems to contribute more directly to the design and development of physical products and buildings.
